RAMADAN REFLECTIONS: DAY 3 NAFS HACK WITH SAID DURRAH

Nafs Hack: Sustainable Fasting

Assalamu alaikum. I’m comedian Said Durrah, and this is your Nafs Hack.

Today, I want to talk to you about the difference between what I call sustainable fasting and silly fasting. Sustainable fasting, if you’re able to fast, is what you’re supposed to do—you know, no food, no water and so forth—but silly fasting is the people that want to go to extremes.

Don’t be that person. That’s the person who tells you, “Oh, I just got an internship at this bakery. It’s going to be great for Ramadan. It’s really going to test me. It’s really going to push me to my extremes.” Why would you want to do that? You’re an aeronautical engineer, and you’re going to be doing and internship at a bakery? That doesn’t make any sense. What are you going to do? Invent flying bread? It doesn’t make sense. Don’t be that silly person.

The other thing is, if you want to work out and you want to go to the gym, go. That’s fine. But don’t push yourself to extremes just because you want to test the lengths that your body can go. You’re going to be that person that’s passing out on the floor after you try to do 300 miles on the treadmill. and guess what the first thing they’re going to do when they wake you up will be? Have a sip of water.

So, you’re not going to be fasting anyways. Don’t be silly. Try to do it sustainable. And the last ones are the ones that I see every time. There’s some sort of fundraiser, or people are giving money and giving their sadaqah, but you run out the door.

I don’t know if it’s to get the early supplies of sweets that are there at the masjid. But you’re supposed to be giving sadaqah during Ramadan. You’re supposed to be giving that sadaqah in Ramadan. So, don’t run out. Give.

In fact, I’m going to give you an opportunity to not be silly and be sustainable and to serve Allah (SWT) by clicking this link and making your donation now. Give to Islamic Relief, give your sadaqah. That’s what your supposed to be doing in Ramadan. So, again, stay sustainable, stay alive insha’Allah, and don’t be silly. Again, this is comedian Said Durrah. Thank you so much.
