RAMADAN REFLECTIONS: DAY 2 NAFS HACK WITH ABDUL MALIK AHMED

Nafs Hack: Time Management: Sprints

Assalamu Alaikum. This is Abdul-Malik Ahmed from Native Deen. This is my nafs hack.

My nafs hack is about time—time management. We’re in the month of Ramadan right now, and one of the hardest things to do is to divide up time properly. And how to get stuff done . We have taraweeh. We have to got to work. We have iftar. We have all of these things. So, one of the things that I find is to do things in sprints.

The way it works in the programming world is: you work hard, you get something completed to give to the customer, and you give to whoever it is you know wants to see the end result.

So whatever we do, during the month of Ramadan is for the pleasure for our own benefit but for the pleasure of Allah (SWT). So a lot of times what we can do we can divide up our time into sprints. For example, during the month of Ramadan we have 4 weeks.

But one the things that I feel that I do is the first week I focus on one thing—making sure that you go to fajr on time, maybe? So, that week you’re focusing specifically on that. So, that’s your sprint.

And at the end of the month, at the end of the week, or however long you want to make your sprint—whether it’s one week or two weeks. Then you can say that I have completed this.

The idea is to take very specific tasks; memorizing a surah, reading certain types of, reading a portion of the Qur’an, waking up for fajr, helping the needy, and making sure you complete the task in the time frame that you have set out to do.

And that is my nafs hack.
