I want to talk to you about the third juz and a theme that comes up over and over, and it’s one of struggle. It’s one of hardship being the way that we are purified. In Aali Imran, we have ayahs that were revealed at a time when Muslims were defeated. They had just endured a brutal defeat where they had lost many companions, they even at one point thought the prophet was gone. They were feeling so demoralized by that defeat. And so the Qur’an and Allah speaks to them in that state by giving them hope, by telling them that this is how they are purified, that this is how Allah distinguishes between those who are strong in faith and those who waiver. And so I think we should take this message very seriously in this time of hardship and understand that this struggle that we are enduring is one that, if we respond in the right way, will end in us being in a better place.
